A baby seal had itself a small adventure after escaping the zoo last night, replete with some biting involved.

RÚV reports that the youngster escaped from the Reykjavík Family Park And Zoo last night, but rather than make a beeline for the nearest harbour, it opted instead to visit a nearby campsite.

There, the baby seal engaged in activities unknown until about six this morning, when campsite staff and guests alike took notice of the seal. Attempting to capture the animal was no easy task, and it avoided many efforts at being caught, both by speed and by threatening to bite.

The seal was eventually caught, with only one police officer bit in the effort, and returned to the zoo. It remains in custody there.

The seal’s method of escape has not been disclosed, presumably to prevent copycat attempts.
