A pair of ministers devoted their Easter mass to the subject of revenge porn and #freethenipple, likening the crucifixion itself to an act of revenge porn.

“For what was the crucifixion of Jesus, other than revenge porn?,” Rev. Jóna Hrönn Bolladóttir asked her congregation on Easter Sunday at Vídalínskirkja, MBL reports. “What else were they doing with his body but bringing it forth to be reproached, to humiliate and harm, so that it would not be forgotten but would be long remembered?”

Jóna held mass with her husband, Bjarni Karlsson, with a joint sermon entitled “Brjóstabylting veraldarinnar”, or “The Breast Revolution of the World”. “Brjóstabylting” is the Icelandic translation that has been used by some for the #freethenipple campaign.

“But Christians of all ages have taken up that naked body, this symbol of shame, and owned it,” said Bjarni. “They have put it up on their churches, hung it on the walls of their homes or from around the necks, and tattooed it on their skin.”

“Yes, only when we bless ourselves do we become a part of the great breast revolution of the world,” Jóna said. “As Christians, we are part of a revolution which takes a nakedness which was intended to shame, and make it a symbol of pride and faith.”
