A couple of reindeer swam into Höfn harbour in Hornafjörður yesterday, surprising boat captain, Gunnar Ásgeirsson, as they appeared alongside his boat.

“Well [reindeer] go where ever they like,” said Captain Gunnar, who told RÚV that reindeer have been visiting nearby islands close to the fjord. Still, Gunnar admitted, it was not common to see them swimming about before this year. “But they are good swimmers, it’s very easy for them.”

After reaching the shore, the reindeer wandered off into town and then, possibly the mountains.
