In the last 24 hours eight reindeer have been run over on the stretch of road between Hvalneskriður and Berufjörður in East Iceland, reports RÚV.

Guide Skúli Benediktsson reported five reindeer deaths, then another three were reported run over by Djúpavogur but those three ran off into the dark after being struck, possibly injured.

As reindeer blend into their surroundings they can be difficult to spot while driving. Those on the road are asked to be vigilant, especially during night time.
