To promote fine art as a profession, numerous artists will open their studios to the public for SÍM’s annual Day of Art on November 1.

Artist studios all over the country will be available for the public to visit between 14:00 to 17:00. People will be able to ask questions and learn more about the work of the artists in an effort to raise awareness of the nation’s creative talent. The day aims to educate the public on the importance of culture in our society, and the day to day tasks involved in being a professional artist.

Studios both associated with SÍM and not associated with the organisation will be open around Reykjavik, as well as other cities outside the capital.

SÍM is also offering primary and lower secondary schools lectures on the role of artists in society and how to make art work as a profession. These lectures have been very successful in the past, with several schools having made it an annual event in their academic calendar.

More information about the Day of Art, including which studios, and their locations, will be opened, can be found here.
