From Iceland — Lagarfljót Worm "Truth Committee" Needs More Time

Lagarfljót Worm “Truth Committee” Needs More Time

Published May 14, 2014

The committee assembled to get to the bottom of the Lagarfljót Worm video mystery two years ago is still investigating.

Vísir reports that the committee has asked for more time based on the fact that numerous comparable videos have appeared on YouTube and other sites also claiming to be video footage of the mythical Lagarfljót Worm, a monster said to live in the depth of Lagarfljót Lake. The committee does not believe costs, nor numbers of meetings, will get out of hand before they reach a conclusion on the matter.

As reported, in February 2012, farmer Hjörtur Kjerúlf took a video of what appears to be a long object moving in a snake-like motion across the current of the river feeding into the lake. There was speculation that this was the famed Worm of Lagarfljót.

The video went viral, attracting attention as far afield as Japan. Although it has since been debunked as fishing netting tangled in ice, last May, the NBC show “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files” went in search of the Worm, as did ABC News, in June. Shortly thereafter, the 13-person truth committee was established to verify or dismiss, once and for all, the existence of the Worm.
