From Iceland — Calvin Klein Thinks Icelandic Designers Should Go Abroad

Calvin Klein Thinks Icelandic Designers Should Go Abroad

Published April 4, 2014

Clothes designer Calvin Klein, guest of honour at the annual Design March festival, believes young Icelandic designers should go abroad to gain experience working in the fashion industry, reports Vísir.

“My advice would be, get the experience where the market really is and where there is such great need for new talent,” said Klein, “I think that would be the best way.”

Calvin Klein also told Vísir that he felt compelled to visit Iceland because of designer Steinunn Sigurðardóttir who worked for him for six years.

“Steinunn is a great designer. When she said she wanted to come back to Iceland I said, you have to find a way to commute because I cannot let you go. At least give me two days a week, or three days a week. Whatever you can, I will take,” said Klein.

DesignMarch runs through Sunday and there is plenty to check out. To find out what is on read Grapevine’s DesignMarch Special.
