From Iceland — Iceland and UK Meeting To Discuss Power Cable

Iceland and UK Meeting To Discuss Power Cable

Published February 24, 2014

Iceland’s Minister of Industry and Commerce and the British Energy Minister have agreed to meet in March to discuss the possibility of a power cable connecting Iceland and the United Kingdom, reports RÚV.

The Minister of Industry has said that it is important to examine the project carefully and that she felt the government should be in charge of it going forward.

While the prospect of exporting energy has been discussed many times in the past few years, Ragnheiður told Bloomberg last year that “We have to realize the potential environmental impact such a project may have. It’s not just a question of plugging the cable into the next available socket.”
