From Iceland — EVE Online Players Support Typhoon Victims

EVE Online Players Support Typhoon Victims

Published December 8, 2013

EVE Online players raised 22 million ISK for the Icelandic Red Cross to aid the people of the Philippines after the typhoon catastrophe one month ago.

The donation was raised in Plex, the ingame currency of EVE, and reached over 12,700 Plexes on Saturday, the last day of the campaign.

This is the fifth time that the CCP game developer raises money for charity through EVE Online. Before, EVE players have supported the victims of the Haiti earthquake and the floods in Pakistan.

On Saturday, CCP’s staff held a live online broadcast to encourage players to donate Plex, raising 15 million ISK during the broadcast.

Eldar Ástþórsson, CCP’s publicist, told RÚV that even though EVE Online is an extremely competitive game, its players also have to rely on co-operation and teamwork.
