Published May 3, 2013

The number of female CEOs in charge of companies listed in the Icelandic stock exchange has doubled with the recent hire of Sigrún Ragna Ólafsdóttir.
Sigrún was appointed CEO of VÍS Insurance, becoming the second female CEO of a company listed on the Icelandic stock exchange since it was founded in 1985, Vísir reports.
Sigrún is from Stykkishólmur in the West part of Iceland and she previously garnered fame as a basketball player for KR. She has extensive experience working for Íslandsbanki and consulting firm Deloitte.
The third chapter of the Icelandic Equality Act 10/2008 states that companies must provide men and women equal opportunities of progression in all tiers of the company, especially management positions.
Noteworthy that Iceland is listed at the top of The World Economic Forum’s ‘Global Gender Gap Report‘ in 2012.
