From Iceland — Icelander Won’t Be Seen By Turkish Court This Week

Icelander Won’t Be Seen By Turkish Court This Week

Published March 13, 2013

It is unlikely that the case of Davíð Órn Bjarnason, the Icelandic man being held in a Turkish jail after being accused of antiquities smuggling on Friday, will be heard before the courts this week, RÚV reports.
When the General Consul to Iceland in Turkey was permitted to meet with Davíð two days ago he was informed that the case would be brought to court in three weeks. Only then will Davíð be informed if he is being fined or convicted for his alleged crime.
A representative from the Icelandic Embassy in Copenhagen is currently on route to Antalya at the behest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The representative and a lawyer have been assigned to oversee Davíð’s case.
