From Iceland — Video Surveillance Coming To Public Transportation

Video Surveillance Coming To Public Transportation

Published March 12, 2013

Thanks to our collective bad behaviour, Stræto, the company that operates buses throughout the greater Reykjavík area, is working toward installing surveillance cameras throughout its fleet, RÚV reports.
This is in response to an increase in incidences of both passengers and drivers being harassed by other patrons of public transport.
The cost of installing video surveillance will run around 600 thousand ISK per bus. Reynir Jónsson, director of Stræto, has said that video surveillance trials carried out in one bus have proven successful. Before the operation Is widely implemented the company will first be paying closer attention to privacy concerns and the wishes of drivers.
