Majority Of Icelanders Satisfied With President

Published February 11, 2013

The majority of Icelanders are satisfied with the work being done by President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, according to a study undertaken by market and Media Research (MMR) that was published today. The poll results show that the 63.6% of respondents are satisfied with the work of the President, compared to 49% claiming to be satisfied at the time of the last poll, concluding on 20 January.
MMR notes that the satisfaction level of respondents has increased due to the outcome of the Icesave court case, as the President has previously vetoed two Icesave agreements, sending the decision to national referendum.

Levels of satisfaction with the President differ among age ranges and political affiliations. Those in the 30-49 year age range are most satisfied (67.7%) followed by the 18-29-year-ilds (66.6%), and those aged 50-67 (54.6%). Those who support the current government are less satisfied (31.2%) with Ólafur than those who do not support the current government (79.1%). Progressive Party members were the biggest supports of the President, claiming to be 91.8% satisfied with his work.
