Björt Framtíð Third Largest Party

Published January 18, 2013

New party Björt Framtíð is the third largest party in the country, while the conservatives gain support.
A new poll conducted by Fréttablaðið and Stöð 2 puts Björt Framtíð at 13%. This is a 0.7% increase from a Gallup poll conducted only two weeks previous.
The Independence Party remains the leading party in the country, taking a sharp rise from 36.3% earlier this month to 41%. The Social Democrats saw a slight dip, from 19.1% to 19%. The Leftist-Greens took the biggest hit, from 9.1% to 7%, decreasing hopes that the ruling coalition will be re-elected. The Progressives saw a smaller drop, from 13.1% to 12%.
Björt Framtíð was formed just over a year ago, and is the sister party of the Best Party, which leads the Reykjavík city council. It is also the only of the so-called “new parties” to poll above 5%.
