EVE Online Relaunches In China

Published December 12, 2012

The sci-fi MMORPG EVE Online has been relaunched in China, while nearing almost half a million subscribers.
In a statement to the press, CPP Games announced that they and TianCity – an “online entertainment hub” based in China – released the game to the Chinese market. Subscriptions have already surpassed their expectations, CCP says.
Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, the CEO of CCP Games, is quoted in the statement as saying, “I can’t think of a better way to kick off our celebration of our tenth anniversary than bringing a new era of EVE Online to mainland China, and I welcome them into the world of New Eden as we enter into our second decade of growth and prosperity for EVE.”
The news comes in the wake of the release of an expansion pack, called Retribution. EVE Online subscribers have also now crossed the 450,000 mark, and these numbers will likely continue to grow as their market in China expands.
“Because of the tremendous effort of the team at CCP, we can proudly say that EVE Online has grown every year since its launch in 2003,” Hilmar added.
