From Iceland — Mývatn Fully Booked Due To Game Of Thrones

Mývatn Fully Booked Due To Game Of Thrones

Published November 19, 2012

All guest accommodation in the Mývatn area is completely booked, while the cast and crew of Game of Thrones are taking up residence there.
As many fans of the series may be aware, the third season of the fantasy series is currently being filmed. One scene from this series is being filmed in the area of Mývatn lake, in northern Iceland. RÚV reports that every available hotel and guesthouse room has been fully booked for November while the cast and crew stay in the surrounding village.
In fact, the area has seen an unusual amount of activity lately, from the shooting of films such as Oblivion to shootings for commercials have meant a steady flow of booked rooms.
Yngvi Ragnar Kristjánsson, the manager of Sel Hotel, told reporters that November is normally a very slow time for the tourist season in the area. Having a film crew in town, he says, is a boon to the industry.
Effects have been felt beyond the tourist industry, too. Local Icelanders – in particular, men with beards and long-haired women – have found work as extras.
