Police Engage In Major Operation Against Motorcycle Club

Published October 5, 2012

This week police initiated a major sweep at seven different locations, all aimed at the motorcycle club The Outlaws.
Vísir reports that the operation was one of the largest the police ever initiated. Beginning on Wednesday, police were dispatched to seven different locations: at the Outlaws clubhouse on Hvaleyrarbraut in Hafnarfjörður, at private homes in Mosfellsbær, Eyrarbakki and in Reykjanesbær, at two undisclosed locations in the capital area, and at the private home of Víðir “Tarfur” (meaning “bull”) Þorgeirsson, the head of the Outlaws in Iceland. Víðir has a criminal record in Iceland, having been sentenced to five years in prison in 2001 for attempting to smuggle 5,000 tablets of Ecstasy into the country.
In all, sixteen people were arrested in the operation, most of them either members of the Outlaws or associated with them, and most of them also have criminal records. Three were released shortly after their arrest, but 13 – 11 men and two women – were kept in custody and underwent intense questioning yesterday.
Police searching the locations found dozens of grammes of illegal drugs, steroids, moonshine brewing equipment and moonshine still in the brewing process, edged weapons and stolen property.
In all, about 80 police officers took part in the operation, including the Special Forces of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, as well as customs officials and bomb squad experts.
