Filmmaker and musician Dagur Kári Pétursson has been tasked with directing a film about famed Norwegian sea captain Peter Tordenskjold.
Dagur Kári, probably best known for his film Nói albinói, has been involved in numerous film and music projects since he first gained international attention in 2003. In a statement to the press, it has been announced that he will now be directing a major potion picture about Peter Tordenskjold, an 18th century captain in what was then the Dano-Norwegian Navy who was renowned for his daring.
The movie is being produced by Nimbus Film. Speaking to ScreenDaily, Dagur said of the project, “”I always thought you should never make films about a time before the camera was invented, but [Erlend] Loe’s script gives a new perspective to the genre.”
Dagur apparently has a lot on his plate. He is also currently working on his next film, called Rocketman. Despite the name, it will be an Icelandic film in Icelandic, with filming starting in this country this winter. It is due to be released in fall 2013.
