Emerging Icelandic dance-pop duo Milkywhale, aka Melkorka Sigríður Magnúsdóttir and Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson, were the revelation of Iceland Airwaves 2015. They played a show each day, winning the hearts, minds and dancing feet of every crowd by elevating each show into a joyous dance party.
In the first of our Airwaves Tipsters series, we asked Milkywhale’s dancer, singer and front-woman Melkorka to share with us what she´s looking forward to at Iceland Airwaves 2016. Here’s what she had to say.
First: who can resist Snorri Helgason, and the music he plays? Go to his concert and enjoy the softness of his music, melancholic but sweet vibes and catchy tunes. Music that heals you when heartbroken and embraces you when in love.
Kött Grá Pjé is an Icelandic rapper which I hereby crown the king of Icelandic lyric writing. His concerts are such a great mixture of rap, poetry citing, energy bursts and just general weirdness. But not to be misunderstood, he can turn a quiet room into a crazy concert from one minute to another.
Now I’m all for listening to serious music but if you’re looking for a sweaty dance party Boogie Trouble is the answer! It’s jut not possible NOT to dance at their high energy boogie concerts. Shout out to the coolest bass player in Iceland. Girl power!
The Internet: who would not like to go to a concert of a band with that name? I like the depth of their music, the singer’s voice and love their name. Don’t disappoint me The Internet.
Finally I would like to bring your attention to an event called Airwords where writers and musician come together and exchange music and words. Fun fact: Milkywhale’s mother actually performed there a few years ago, before Milkywhale existed!
