16-year-old Aron Can is a fast-rising star in the Reykjavík rap scene, performing each weekend for crowded audiences who seem to know every word.

He started out when he was just 10 years old, and has been working on developing his own style ever since. “I feel it’s best to not necessarily think about what’s hot today,” he explains, “but just to keep doing my thing and keep making music that I like.”

And it seems to be working: everyone has been going mad about him on Twitter. What could be the explanation? “Maybe it’s because it’s a new style of Icelandic music,” he says.

“I’ll just keep making the music that I love,” he affirms. And if his nascent success so far is anything to go by, he has the right idea.

Check out his new video here, and see Aron play tonight at Tivoli.
