In a fjord far, far away, thirteen students from eight countries have dwelled between the two mountains of Seyðisfjördur at the LungA School for the past three months. You may have heard of the LungA Festival, a week long celebration of creativity, art, joy and love (seriously!) held every summer in the east of Iceland. Last year, the festival branched out to include a school taught with an alternative twist. Running two semesters a year, the school offers a combination of workshops, companionship, personal growth and art in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.

I learnt about LungA while interning at the Grapevine last year, and found myself drawn back to Iceland less than a year later. However, this time I was a student and far from the “big city” vibes of Reykjavik. I had no idea how to explain to my family and friends what I was going to be doing in a tiny Icelandic town.

Three months later and I am still not sure how to describe the amazing and life-changing experience I have had at LungA school. All I can suggest is coming along to our free exhibition tonight, the November 27, to get a taste of what LungA means.

We are aiming to make this exhibition not your typical experience, like the kind where you stand around pretending to enjoy the art whilst secretly trying to imbibe as many free drinks as possible and getting off with one of the artists. By all means, bring your game. However, we just really want to share the unique time we’ve had over the past three months with all the lovely people of Reykjavík. We’re joined by our artists in residence Julie Laenkholm (DK) and Laura Tack (BE) who have been inspiring us weekly through their experimental art class ‘SIM Card Thursdays’.

Please come along, we would love to meet you!
