“Who were the three people involved in the first transmission from the moon?”

The weekend is over. Your body aches. Your mind is in a fog. You need to clear your head. You’re in luck. Hosts Sunna and Snjólaug have started a weekly Sunday night Pub Quiz—in English. It’s the perfect mix of competition and recovery. You may have lost in love on Saturday, but, on Sunday, you can win in general knowledge and pineapple flavoured cocktails.

The rules are simple. You need a team of eager quizards (maximum five people per team) to pool your general knowledge of the world and win prizes! What prizes? Booze for next weekend! That’s fiscal planning made possible in a island themed environment. KABLAMO!

There are four different types of questions. The first round being the picture round. Your team has arrived, taken their seats, and you cast your discerning bloodshot eyes over a series of photos. Who are these people? Madonna? What country is that flag from? Albania? Is that a picture of Rosa Parks or Selena Gomez?

“What animal is the Canary Islands named after?

Then there are three other types of rounds: general questions (“What is the average air speed velocity of a swallow?”), music round (Name That Song!), and Lightning Rounds of Trivia (first one to shout out the right answer wins).

If Thursday is Little Friday, then Sunday is Fat Saturday. It’s a bit lazier, a bit sweatier, but it’s got a great personality and still needs love like any other day.

I attended the inaugural Pub Quiz with another intern and my night sounds better than most Saturdays: we won a round of beer, a round of cocktails, a bottle of rum, and a ripe pineapple. My hair caught on fire while taking a photo. I tried a Gin and Campari for the first time, and I got in an argument with my girlfriend about Steve Miller Band. A Fat Saturday to remember.

“Katy Perry!”

The BarAnanas Pub Quiz is every Sunday starting at 20:00 at, funny enough, BarAnanas. It’s Free.
