100 Year Old Jet Setter

One hundred year old Lára Jónsdóttir is the oldest passenger to have travelled with Icelandair, let alone to be a frequent flyer.

Lára was briefly interviewed by Vísir.is on Friday when she was headed for Orlando, to attend her son-in-law’s 70th birthday party. She herself turned 100 this summer.

Accompanied by her granddaughter, Lára didn’t have to think twice when asked how she was going to spend her time in Florida.

“We’re going to drink wine and soak up the sun. We’ll probably do a lot of shopping too,” Lára told the reporter as she waited for her first glass of wine at the airport terminal.

“Knowing myself, this won’t my last trip. I’m always planning more travel,” she added. “Next time I want to go on a shopping trip to Boston; I’d like to buy a blouse and some pretty pants to go with it.”

Lára’s granddaughter, Lára Hildur Tómasdóttir, said there was nothing to worry about her grandmother’s frequent travels.

“She gets to sit in the very front and they always take such good care of her. She flies many times a year so we’re used to this.”

Her grandmother confirms that. “And everybody’s so pleased that I keep going, travelling while I trust myself to do it. You should make the most of your time on earth while you can,” 100 year old Lára said and urged others to do the same.
