Two men have been in custody since January when their attempt to smuggle 3 kg of amphetamines into Iceland was thwarted by airport customs. The Polish nationals were arriving from Warsaw when their baggage was searched and the illegal substances were discovered, RÚV
reports
.
Both men should be freed from custody on Wednesday, however Reykjavík police are currently seeking an extension.
With Iceland being an island and all, smuggling of drugs and other goods, legal or not, is a fairly regular occurrence. This past October a gang of Icelanders were caught in an international sting operation while attempting to smuggle 35 kg of amphetamines and ecstasy into the country.
