reports that the convicted in question was charged with shoplifting 10 bottles of vanilla extract, anti-perspirant, bras and underwear from the Hagkaup in Skeifan in November 2011.
This would be far from her first or last offence: she had stolen six bottles of vanilla extract from the same store last June, seven bottles of vanilla and cardamom extract from Hagkaup in Smáralind last July, and returned to the same store in August to steal eight more bottles of cardamom extract.
While these offences by themselves are not necessarily major, she was sentenced in March 2011 to 12 months in prison for theft. In October of the same year, she was released on parole. As the extract shoplifting occurred while on parole, she was subsequently sentenced in Reykjavík District Court to eight months in prison.
Cardamom and vanilla extract, among other extracts, are often mixed with soft drinks to create a cheap and powerful alcoholic beverage.
A woman has been sentenced to eight months in prison after having repeatedly stolen cardamom and vanilla extract from stores, and violating her parole.
