A Reykjavík shelter for homeless women received a gift of new beds, for which one donor said there was “an absolutely great need.”
DV reports that nine beds were given to Konukot, a night shelter for homeless women. The donors behind the beds were the Loftur Gunnarsson Memorial Fund, the restaurant 900 Grillhús in the Westman Islands, and a 220,000 ISK donation from an anonymous source.
The shelter also received an oven, a toaster, a hob, a computer and a refrigerator from another anonymous source.
Alma Rut Lindudóttir, the chairperson of The Voices, a special interest group which focuses on the homeless, is also on the directorship of the Loftur Gunnarsson Memorial Fund. About the donations, she said, “There is an absolutely great need for the beds. … We intend to keep donating to all those places which provide resources to the homeless.”
Those who want to take part in the drive are encouraged to visit the Facebook group (in Icelandic) to see what you can contribute and how.
