From Iceland — Website Of Icelandic Movies Opens

Website Of Icelandic Movies Opens

Published February 29, 2012

A new website has opened that has archived information on about 1,200 movies made by Icelanders, or involving Iceland in some way.
Kvikmyndavefurinn is run by the Icelandic Film Centre, and was formally opened by Minister of Education, Science and Culture Katrín Jakobsdóttir last Friday.
The site, which is also available in English, has archived about 8,000 names, 700 companies, and 1,200 films. Apart from actual Icelandic movies, the site also archives information on movies related to Iceland in some way.
Each entry contains vital information about the film, with the intended purpose being to keep an historical record of Icelandic films, all the way to the first movies made in the country.
The English archive, incidentally, uses the English titles of the Icelandic films, unless there was no official English title made. The earliest film archived, You and I, dates to 1918.
