From Iceland — Vote On City Improvements

Vote On City Improvements

Published April 9, 2013

The City of Reykjavík is inviting residents to vote on improvements they wish to see implemented around town.
So if you’re a resident of Reykjavík and at least 16-years-old you can sign in to Betri Reykjavík’s website with your kennitala and password (issued to you by Ríkisskattstjóri), select your district, and vote for the projects you want to see developed in your neighbourhood.
In Miðborg, for example, residents can vote to install playground equipment in Hljómskálagarðurinn, put up street lights at the corner of Barónssígur and Egilsgata, or add more community recycling bins to the area. While in Vesturbær one can vote to install Christmas decorations (presumably during the holidays only), add planters of summer flowers throughout the neighbourhood, or add heating to a bus stop on Neshagi, among other things.
Voting is only open online until the 11th (that’s this Thursday) so if you want a say in how the city spends money in your neighbourhood get thee to a computer and click away!
