From Iceland — Vast Majority Do Not Want Foreigners Owning Natural Resources

Vast Majority Do Not Want Foreigners Owning Natural Resources

Published July 29, 2010

According to a new Capacent poll, 85% of Icelanders are against allowing foreigners to buy Icelandic natural resources.
The poll, initiated by blogger Teitur Atlason, also shows that 4.5% favor the idea of foreigners owning Icelandic natural resources. 10% said they had no opinion on the matter.
In all, 1,200 people from ages 16 and up were contacted for the survey. 65.9% of those took part.
Teitur has blogged a great deal about the Magma issue and, like apparently many Icelanders, is against foreign companies owning Icelandic natural resources.
Which raises the question: would it be alright for an Icelandic private company to own Icelandic natural resources?
