Unemployment At 5.8% In January

The unemployment rate was 5.8% in January, a 0.9% decrease from the same month in 2012.
According to new figures released by Statistics Iceland there are 177,800 people actively in the labour force, of which 10,400 are currently unemployed. More men are unemployed than women, with the respective rates of unemployment of the genders being 6.4% for men and 5.3% for women.
While there has been a small increased in the unemployment rate from December 2012 to January 2013 (0.3%), over the past six months unemployment has decreased by 2.3% and the twelve-month trend shows that employment has increased by 1.5%.
