Unemployed Swim for Free in Hafnarfjörður

A town ordinance has granted Hafnarfjörður’s unemployed residents free swimming rights at the public pool. The memberships will be given six months at a time, at which time, if they’re still unemployed, they can apply for another six months.
According to the Directorate of Labor, some 1,250 residents of the town are unemployed – nearly 10% of the town’s population. The pool at Hafnarfjörður normally costs 300 ISK per adult per visit.
