From Iceland — Too Many Seagulls At The Pond

Too Many Seagulls At The Pond

Published July 27, 2013

An action plan to reduce the number of seagulls lurking around Reykjavík’s pond has been proposed at a city council meeting this week, with a representative of the Independence Party suggesting it’s necessary to shoot seagulls in order to scare them off.
In an interview with Morgunblaðið, Independence Party member and City Councilor Kjartan Magnússon espoused the need for a radical approach to dealing with the abundance of seagulls in the pond, RÚV reports.
The result of more ad more seagulls, a predatory bird, at the pond has been a decrease in ducklings this year.
Kjartan insists that not many gulls would need to be shot before they get the hint and move elsewhere. Signs will also be posted asking people not to feed the seagulls.
