From Iceland — Tax Incentive For A Greener Commute

Tax Incentive For A Greener Commute

Published February 20, 2013

Employees and employers can come to an agreement to grant a 7000 ISK monthly tax credit to those who forego taking their car to work.
Hjólafærni, as organisation of cyclists in Iceland, notes on their website that businesses can offer transportation contracts to their employees as a means of promoting the use of busses, cycling or walking for their daily commute.
The Ríkisskattstjóri, the Icelandic tax office, outlines the conditions that must be met to receive the transportation credit as signing a formal contract between the employer and employee; and the dedication to taking environmentally friendly transport to and from work daily.
