Support For Prime Minister High

Published July 2, 2013

Despite the abundance of petitions in circulation protesting several decisions made by the new Progressive Party-led government, support for Prime Minister Sigmundur Davið Gunnlaugsson is high.
According to a poll conducted by Fréttablaðið, 44% of respondents are satisfied with the work Sigmundur Davið has done in his first weeks as Prime Minister. This is nearly double the percentage of those who believe he has been doing a bad job, which is 22.5% of respondents, RÚV report.
Not surprisingly, the most positive opinion of the Prime Minister is held by Progressive Party supporters, with 76.3% saying they are pleased with Sigmundur Davið. 75% of supporters of the Independence Party, which is in a coalition government with the Progressives, are happy with the Prime Minister. Rural residents are more satisfied with Sigmundur Davið than those who live in the capital are, though the difference is not huge.
