Support For Opposition On The Rise

Published June 4, 2013

The new parliamentary session is barely underway and already the Progressive Party and Independence Party are losing support, while the opposition is gaining favour, RÚV reports.
According to a Gallup poll conducted in May the Progressives have lost 3 percentage points and the Independents have lost 1 point, bringing their combined post-election support to 47%. The two parties had formed a coalition after winning 51%  of the vote during the 27 April elections.
Meanwhile support for the Social Democratic Alliance, the party of now-retired Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, has increased by 3%, for a total of 16%, and the Left Greens are claiming 13% support of those polled, up 2% since the elections.
