Stowaways Caught On Cruise Ship Departing Reykjavík

Published June 7, 2013

Two men were caught stowing away on a cruise ship departing Reykjavík harbour yesterday morning.
The ship, which had been docked in Reykjavík while its international passengers toured the city had just sailed out of the harbour when two men thought to be in their twenties or thirties were discovered hiding on board, RÚV reports.
The men, from Morocco and Tunisia, were returned to shore and taken to police. They had thought that the ship was on route to Canada, when in fact it was destined for the Faroe Islands. According to police the two men have been in Iceland for 1.5 years and 3 months, respectively.
RÚV did not report on the status of the men, whether they are residents or asylum seekers.
