From Iceland — Spring Coming This Saturday?

Spring Coming This Saturday?

Published March 23, 2012

If the weather forecast holds true, springtime in Iceland might be officially beginning this Saturday.
This past winter has given the country more snowfall than its received in recent memory, and although the equinox is only a few days behind us now, many Icelanders are anticipating the coming of spring.
Those days might be coming soon, according to the latest forecast for tomorrow, which shows double-digit temperatures and mostly sunny skies for most of the country, apart from the southeast.
Meteorologist Sigurður Þ. Ragnarsson, better known as Siggi Stormur, told DV that although Saturday looks decidedly better than Sunday, he would not be too quick to say this meant the beginning of spring.
The forecast from Sunday to Wednesday showed rain and upper single digit temperatures for most of the country, so temperatures are not likely to be significantly warming up for the country for good. However, if there’s one thing that exemplifies the Icelandic spring, it’s rain.
