From Iceland — Roger Boyes Appears on Icelandic Television

Roger Boyes Appears on Icelandic Television

Published December 7, 2009

Roger Boyes, author and news editor of The Times, appeared on the roundtable discussion show Silfur Egils, where he spoke very frankly about the collapse of the banks.
Boyes, author of the book Meltdown Iceland, which covered the bank collapse, told viewers that the country had been betrayed by the Independence Party in general, and by Davíð Oddsson in particular. He contended that supervisory elements that should have been in place were not doing their jobs, because of the anti-regulatory beliefs of Oddsson and his fellow conservatives. He also attributed blame to former tycoon Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson, and added that Iceland’s bank collapse was home-made. Not to be entirely down on Iceland, he did make a point to emphasize that British officials had also behaved poorly towards Icelanders after the collapse.
The interview is well worth watching in its entirety, and can be viewed online (and in English) here.
