Robbery Attempt Foiled By Citizen’s Arrest

Published June 4, 2012

Two armed robbers who attempted a heist at a pharmacy in Akureyri had their plans thwarted by an employee and regular passers-by.
Vísir reports that at around noon yesterday, a man and a woman entered the downtown pharmacy. Wearing masks and brandishing a crowbar, they attempted to rob the pharmacy. A struggled ensued with one of the employees, who ended up with a head injury for his troubles.
The two robbers fled empty-handed, attempting to vacate the scene, but were tackled by passers-by. The suspects were held in place until police were able to arrive on the scene to arrest them. The male suspect has had many run-ins with the law before, and had a small amount of drugs on his person. Both appeared to be under the influence.
The two suspects remain in police custody.
