Reykjavík Mayor Wins Person Of The Year

Jón Gnarr was honored by television station Stöð 2 as Person Of The Year, and announced his intentions to run for parliament in the next elections.
Arriving on the set of the roundtable political discussion show Kryddsíld, held every New Year’s Eve, Jón wore an alien mask – a reference to previous remarks he has made that he is regarded by an alien of sorts by other politicians; that he is like the Predator, but that he doesn’t think there’s an equivalent Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Jón was given the award for the success of his party, the Best Party, during municipal elections held earlier this year. He told reporters that he always finds it fun to surprise people, and when asked if his party intends to run in parliamentary elections, he said they were ready.
The Best Party has been slightly down in the polls lately, with the conservatives actually showing a strong upswing in support. However, that only pertains to Reykjavík city politics – a national campaign could be a whole other story.
