From Iceland — Report on Economic Collapse to Be Performed as Play

Report on Economic Collapse to Be Performed as Play

Published April 8, 2010

The Reykjavík City Theatre has announced that it intends to “perform” the Parliamentary Investigative Committee’s report on the economic collapse of 2008.
Comprised of a cast of 45 actors, the theatre has emphasized that it will not dramatically interpret the report in any form. The actors will simply read aloud from the report, day and night, for approximately three to five days, without cessation.
The report itself is over 2,000 pages long. Its publication has been pushed ahead many times – previously, it was supposed to come out shortly before the Icesave referendum. This prompted Leftist-Greens to call for a delay of the referendum so people could have time to read the report. Conservatives – many of whom stand to be implicated in the report – reject the idea.
Those who want to see and hear some of our city’s actors read the report are welcome to come to the theatre on 12 April. If you’re not able to attend, you’ll also be able to watch the performance through the theatre’s website.
