Poses With Guns And Bombs On Facebook, Gets Arrested

Published February 27, 2012

A 29-year-old Icelandic man was arrested last night and found to be in possession of numerous weapons, including some homemade bombs. Police received the tip after the man posted photos of his arsenal on Facebook.
According to Vísir, the man had been behaving strangely on Facebook, and posted photos of himself with guns, knives and pipe bombs. He also included photos of a fish crate he blew up.
Due to the serious nature of the arsenal, the special police force – the Viking Squad – was sent to the man’s home in Suðurnes to arrest him. Upon storming his home, the man allegedly threatened the police with a knife, but he was soon overtaken and arrested.
Police found in the suspect’s home gunpowder, wires, and lead, one completed pipe bomb, numerous knives, and a .22 calibre pistol. It later came to light that the gun – known as a “sheep gun” for its typical purpose of slaughtering livestock – was reported stolen in 2006.
The man is currently in police custody. According to police, the man was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest.
