Portrait Of Davíð Oddsson For Sale!

Published September 13, 2013

A local artist is offering the above portrait of legendary Icelandic politicus Davíð Oddsson for sale, to hang in your home or office.
Vísir reports that the artist, Árni Björn Guðjónsson, has had many irons in the fire, from furniture design to drawing up the plans for a water park in 2011. He has also been painting since the age of 12.
Among his many paintings is this portrait of former Prime Minister and Central Bank manager Davíð Oddsson, who is now the co-editor of Morgunblaðið. There is as yet no set price – Árni is open to offers.
When asked what inspired him to paint Davíð, Árni told Vísir, “I lived in Spain for a while, where I was painting portraits of saints. Then I come back to Iceland and see that Davíð Oddsson has become quite popular. I got started, and sold two Davíðs at my first show. I’ve since sold 14 more Davíðs.”
Árni says that the portrait has been most popular with businesspeople, who find it makes a good addition to their office spaces. While he says that he does not exactly agree with Davíð’s politics, he is undoubtedly a significant figure in Icelandic society.
“Davíð is a real classic, everybody knows that,” Árni said. “There are people who simply love him. That’s what they’ve told me, the people who’ve bought paintings from me. That they love him.”
