Capital area police have issued a warning to motorists and pedestrians due to a significant accumulation of black ice on roads, Vísir reports.
Anyone planning on hoofing it today are advised to be extra vigilant as the black ice on the roads is being concealed by a thick layer of fresh, wet snow. Drivers should be equally cautious. One city bus was derailed off a road in Garðabær by black ice and snow.
An overnight snowshower surprised the greater Reykjavík area this morning after many weeks of dry to drizzling weather. The snow expected to taper off and turn into rain by this afternoon, according to the Iceland Meteorological Office.
