Playschool Will Not Re-Open

A downtown Reykjavík playschool still under investigation for child abuse will close for good, the school director told reporters.
As reported, the 101 Playschool came under police investigation after a former employee came forward with video evidence of staff using physical abuse against children.
The two accused employees were subsequently put on leave. The director of the school, Hulda Linda Stefánsdóttir, told reporters that she was unaware of any physical abuse. In the wake of a meeting with parents, the school announced they would close pending investigations.
DV now reports that Hulda has announced that the school will close for good.
“I have no other choice but to close the school once and for all,” she said. “It is a very weighty decision. I just want to say that accusations against me, personally, are groundless. I want to say as well that I deeply regret the treatment of these children that the evidence in this matter seems to show, as well as the impact this has had on the parents over the past few days.”
Hulda added she would continue to cooperate with the investigation.
