From Iceland — Outlaws One Year In Iceland

Outlaws One Year In Iceland

Published October 10, 2012

The Outlaws motorcycle club has been in Iceland for about a year now, having most recently been the focus of one of Iceland’s largest police actions.
Grapevine first reported on the Outlaws and Iceland in early 2011, when then-leader of the Hells Angels in Iceland, Einar “Boom” Marteinsson, addressed concerns that his club was planning on going to war with another club already in Iceland, the Black Pistons, who are formally aligned with The Outlaws, a motorcycle club often at odds with the Hell’s Angels.
The motorcycle club’s arrival in Iceland in October of that year saw police at the time prepared to anticipate violence between the Outlaws and the Hells Angels. Their formal establishment in Iceland was reported in December, when they had set up a clubhouse in Hafnarfjörður.
While there has been little violence between the two clubs – in fact, the Hells Angels are in the midst of a major police crackdown – the Outlaws themselves have been accused of engaging in violent activities in Iceland. This has culminated in a major sweep from police that led to the arrest of 13 people, including Outlaws leader Víðir “Tarfur” Þorgeirsson.
Speaking to Morgunblaðið, Víðir said, “It bothers me a lot that people believe we’ve planned attacks on women and children. It is absolutely absurd that this is something we’d plan. We are family men ourselves.”
While Víðir refused to comment on what exactly the Outlaws do, he said that it was an international motorcycle club and fraternity.
