From Iceland — Oliver Closes, But The Dude Abides

Oliver Closes, But The Dude Abides

The café and club Oliver closed its doors for good last Tuesday, but will be replaced in a few weeks by a new place themed on The Big Lebowski.
Oliver, while a popular spot for the past seven years, closed up shop last week. Locals and visitors alike can take heart, though, as Morgunblaðið reports a new place – complete with bowling lanes, a dance floor, and a bar which will also sell burgers – will soon open up with a theme revolving around the Coen Brothers’ film The Big Lebowski.
Arnar Gíslason, the owner of Oliver, along with his business partner, Logi Helgason, joined up with Andri Björnsson and Óli Már Ólason of Vegamót to create the new place. Arnar and Logi have often been in fierce competition with Andri and Óli, so their combined forces may promise good things.
The Lebowski theme is being carried far enough where bowling shoes will be made available, and they have hired an American architect to come to Iceland, and give the place an “authentic American look”.
The new place is expected to open after six weeks. Arnar did not want to reveal the name of the place at this time.
