From Iceland — Offering Botox Treatment In Her Home

Offering Botox Treatment In Her Home

Published March 21, 2011

An enterprising immigrant to Iceland has been offering botox treatments in her apartment, despite rather strict regulations on such operations.
Eyjan reports that a “foreign woman” has been giving people botox treatments from her block apartment in Kópavogur. She had been importing the substance from the Ukraine.
By Icelandic law, only a doctor can administer botox. A reporter for the magazine DV visited the woman in her home, and saw a number of certificates from foreign beauty schools, but no medical credentials were found.
Nonetheless, she has apparently been delivering these treatments for the past four years now. Medical professionals DV spoke to say that the matter is very serious.
Botox is the toxin released by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. While in beauty treatments it is used to tighten the muscles in the face and reduce wrinkles, higher concentrations can cause paralysis in other muscles in the body, and is potentially fatal.
