From Iceland — Of Monsters And Men Equal Björk's Record

Of Monsters And Men Equal Björk’s Record

Published September 3, 2012

Icelandic pop band Of Monsters And Men have reportedly achieved a charting record for a first album from an Icelandic music act previously held only by Björk, and rising.
The band has been enjoying considerable success from their debut album, My Head Is An Animal, both in North America and Europe. RÚV reports that they have recently climbed the charts to a position previously held only by Björk’s first solo album, Debut, released about 19 years ago.
When Debut was released, it went straight to the third position on the British music charts, and the first single from the album – Violently Happy – went to the 36th position. My Head Is An Animal has made it to the third position as well, but notably, the first single from that album – Little Talks – is now at the 12th position. It was at the 21st position only a week previous.
Björk still retains her position as the most successful Icelandic artist on the British music charts, though – her album Post, which came out two years after Debut, went to the second position on those charts.
Of Monsters And Men’s agent, Heather Kolker, told reporters that the band has sold 332,000 copies of their album in the US, and is at 18th place on Billboard’s Top 200, after peaking at 6th place. Furthermore, 730,000 copies of Little Talks have been sold in North America, and the single has achieved gold record status in the US, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and Ireland.
