From Iceland — Davíð Oddsson To Be Morgunblaðið's New Editor?

Davíð Oddsson To Be Morgunblaðið’s New Editor?

Published September 22, 2009

Morgunblaðið has not yet hired a new editor since the previous one,
Ólafur Þ. Stephensen, left the position last Friday, but one name has
emerged as a possible candidate: Davíð Oddsson.
According to the website Eyjan.is, Oddsson – carreer politician and the Central Bank chairman before and during Iceland’s financial collapse – has been slated for the position, according to anonymous sources, and will be confirmed for the position tomorrow. Morgunblaðið publisher Óskar Magnússon would not comment on the matter.
Morgunblaðið used to be very closely tied with the Independence Party in the past, and has had difficulty shaking their reputation as a conservative mouthpiece. Oddsson himself was said to be the “editor behind the scenes” during their supposed impartial years as a media source. His hiring for the position of editor would more or less confirm what many have long suspected.
